Unintentional omissions typically occur when individuals either do not read the questions carefully or they read the question in such a way and interpret it incorrectly. For the most part, the questions on the questionnaire are straightforward and not subject to your own interpretation. Specifically, an example is in the employment section of the SF-86. In this question, you must list the reason why you left an employment and whether or not that reason was due to unfavorable circumstances. Sometimes, individuals interpret this question incorrectly by thinking about what their employment record reflects, which is not what the question is asking for. Even if you left an employment technically under unfavorable circumstances but your employment record reflects that you just resigned, you still have to list the actual reasons for leaving that employment. Another section in which it can be problematic is the police records section. In this section, you must list certain incidents that have occurred within the last seven years.
